In plain words
We don't use advertising or tracking cookies.
Our sites only store what they need to work — your theme, your privacy choice and, in the app, your sign-in. Optional features (saved Vela chat history) run only as the rules for where you are allow — in the EU, UK, Switzerland, Brazil and Canada, only after you opt in.
1.What cookies and similar technologies are
Cookies are small files a website stores in your browser. “Local storage” is a similar browser feature that keeps small pieces of data on your device. The law (the UK PECR and the EU ePrivacy Directive) treats them alike: anything that isn't strictly necessary for a service you asked for needs your consent first.
2.On this website
This marketing site sets one cookie — the one that remembers your privacy choice — and a few strictly necessary storage items:
| Name | Type | Purpose | Category | Duration |
|---|---|---|---|---|
autonieer-theme | Local storage | Remembers whether you chose the light or dark theme. | Strictly necessary (a feature you asked for) | Until you clear it |
autonieer_consent | Cookie (first-party, SameSite=Lax, Secure) | Remembers your privacy choices, the policy version you answered and a random consent id that links your browser to the proof record we keep (never to your IP address). | Strictly necessary | 12 months, then we ask again (also when this policy changes) |
autonieer.bug-session | Session storage | A random, anonymous id for this browser tab, sent only with error reports and problem reports so we can count how many visits an error affects and match your report to it. | Strictly necessary (keeping the service working) | Until you close the tab |
The Vela assistant (the chat button in the corner) stores nothing until you open it. If you use it, it keeps the following on your device; nothing here is used for tracking or advertising:
| Name | Type | Purpose | Category | Duration |
|---|---|---|---|---|
sage:<site>:sid | Local storage | A random id for your conversation with Vela, created only when you open the chat, so its answers follow the thread. | Strictly necessary (a feature you asked for) | Until you start a new chat or clear it |
sage:<site>:conv | Session storage | The current conversation, so it survives a page reload in the same tab. | Strictly necessary (a feature you asked for) | Until you close the tab (or the day changes) |
Vela chat history | IndexedDB (encrypted with AES-GCM; the key cannot leave your browser) | Keeps your past Vela conversations on this device so you can come back to them. | Functional — only if you allow “Functional” | Until you delete it in the chat, clear site data, or withdraw consent |
3.Your choices, and why they depend on where you are
When you first visit, our server looks up which country your IP address belongs to, using a database kept on our own server (the address is not sent to anyone else and is not stored). That decides which rules apply:
- EU and EEA, United Kingdom, Switzerland, Brazil, Canada — and whenever the country can't be determined: nothing optional runs until you choose. “Reject all” is as easy as “Accept all”, and “Manage choices” lets you decide category by category.
- United States: optional features are on unless you turn them off, which you can do in one click. We treat a Global Privacy Control signal from your browser as that opt-out automatically. We don't sell or share personal information.
- Everywhere else: a notice with the same choices.
Wherever you are, a Global Privacy Control signal turns optional features off by default, and you can change your mind at any time with “Cookie settings” in the footer. Your choice is stored in your browser — not against your IP address, because many people can share one address (a household, an office, a mobile network) and addresses change. So each browser and device makes its own choice; we ask again after 12 months or when this policy changes.
Proof of your choice. The law requires us to be able to show that consent was given. When you choose, we record the random id from your autonieer_consent cookie, your choices, the date, the policy version, the region rules that applied, your browser and operating-system family, and a keyed hash of your IP address that can't be turned back into the address (the key changes every year). If you are signed in, the record is linked to your account and included when you export your data. We keep these records for 4 years — the 12 months a choice lasts plus 3 years — then delete them. See our Privacy Policy.

4.Analytics
We may in future use Plausible Analytics to count visits and see which pages are useful. It is not enabled today. Plausible uses no cookies, stores nothing on your device and collects no personal data; it counts page views using a daily-rotating anonymised identifier. Even so, it is an optional “Analytics” feature: in opt-in regions we only load it after you allow it, and never if you reject it or your browser sends Global Privacy Control.
You can change your choice at any time with “Cookie settings” in the footer of every page.
5.In the Autonieer app
The product app uses local storage (no cookies of its own) for the following, all strictly necessary to provide what you ask for:
| Name | Type | Purpose | Category | Duration |
|---|---|---|---|---|
autonieer.refresh | Local storage | Keeps you signed in: a refresh token exchanged for short-lived access tokens. | Strictly necessary | Until you sign out; the token itself expires after 30 days |
autonieer.org | Local storage | Remembers which organization you're working in. | Strictly necessary | Until you sign out or clear it |
autonieer.prefs | Local storage | Editor preferences such as theme and units. | Strictly necessary (a feature you asked for) | Until you clear it |
autonieer.editor.layout.v1 | Local storage | Where you placed the editor's panels. | Strictly necessary (a feature you asked for) | Until you clear it |
autonieer.localPlan | Local storage | A local safety copy of the plan you're editing, so unsaved work survives a crash. | Strictly necessary | Until you clear it or save |
autonieer.bug-session | Session storage | A random, anonymous id for this browser tab, sent only with error reports and problem reports. | Strictly necessary (keeping the service working) | Until you close the tab |
The site runs on autonieer.com and the product app on app.autonieer.com — each on its own web address, so the storage of one is not shared with the others. Sign out on computers you share.
When you pay, Stripe's hosted checkout — on Stripe's own domain — sets cookies it needs for fraud prevention and payment security. They are governed by Stripe's cookie policy.
6.How to control them
Use “Cookie settings” in the footer to change your choices at any time; withdrawing is as easy as giving consent. You can also clear local storage and cookies in your browser's settings; if you clear the app's storage you will be signed out, and unsaved local drafts will be lost.
7.More information
